The most obvious characteristics of modern police are staggering ignorance and towering arrogance. But, frankly, it's also humanity. Dozens of strangers agree to harass an old woman for money, and no one helps. That has been my life for seven years. There are many, many, many ways the police could bust the operation, most saliently is that these guys move their refuse through city utilities (in the case of Grand Junction) or Thompson Sanitation (in the case of Newport). The whole block is involved, and we are talking about many cubic yards every week, and it would be so easy just to pluck it up before the trash trucks pick up the trash. It really could be just that simple, and they have drug dogs and everything in Newport. Disposal is the crooks biggest the problem and the one that puts them most at risk, or would, if the police gave a shit, which they do not. I start a new job with the Census tomorrow. It's everything to me. They are going to chase me everywhere I go, just like they always do.
