When it comes to meals, clients don't have to worry about cooking. Three meals a day are prepared on-site by a professional chef. Coffee and snacks are available at certain times of the day. Treatment and Staff While some of the Gateway Foundation's treatment centers focus solely on addiction, the male-only one specializes in mental health issues. A medically monitored detox is not offered but clients can take part in a social detox. The approach to recovery depends greatly on the individual's needs, with treatment time usually falling between 30 and 90 days. Individual counseling can be done anywhere from one to five times a week, depending on the client. Group therapy happens for several hours each day, with topics such as relapse prevention, anger management, self-esteem, life skills, employment, anger management, processing and trauma. Treatment also involves education around substance abuse; the addiction-as-a-disease model is discussed in a lecture setting. The approach to 12-step recovery is very loose.
